Product image size guide
Every channel crops differently, and a crop you did not plan for is the most common reason a listing image looks wrong. Here are the sizes that matter.
The sizes, channel by channel
The table below is the short version of what each major channel asks for. Where a range exists, the larger number is what to export: images are downscaled by the platform anyway, and downscaling is free, while upscaling is not.
- Amazon: 1000 px or more on the longest side, square, pure white background.
- Shopify: square, 2048 x 2048 px recommended.
- Etsy: 2000 px wide recommended, square or 4:3.
- eBay: 1600 px on the longest side to enable zoom.
- Shopee and Lazada: square, 1024 x 1024 px recommended.
- Instagram: 1080 x 1080 px feed, 1080 x 1350 px portrait.
- Pinterest: 1000 x 1500 px (2:3).
Shoot once, export everywhere
The reason sellers end up with eleven different photo sets is that each channel was shot separately. The efficient route is the opposite: shoot one original per product with generous space around it, then crop per channel.
For that to work, the original has to be square-friendly and tall-friendly at the same time. Shooting in a 4:5 frame with the product centred leaves room to crop down to square or up to 2:3 without losing the product.
- Shoot at the highest resolution your phone offers.
- Leave at least 10% of the frame as margin on every side.
- Keep the product centred — crops take from the edges.
- Export at 1000 px or more, never upscale.
Getting the sizes right automatically
Zenith AI – Product Photo exports the same image at the crops each channel wants, from one original. That removes the step where a seller takes a square image, uploads it to a marketplace, and discovers it has been cropped at the sides.
It also means the product looks identical across channels, which is what makes a brand recognisable when a buyer sees it in two places.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the best size for a product photo?
Shoot at the highest resolution your phone offers and export at 1000 px or more on the longest side. Square is the safest aspect ratio because marketplaces crop to square, and it can be cropped taller for social.
Do product photos need to be square?
Marketplace listings do, because the search grids are square and the platforms crop to fit. Social channels are the opposite: Instagram accepts square and 4:5, Pinterest wants 2:3, and TikTok is vertical.
Can I upscale a small product photo?
You can, and it will look soft. The better fix is to reshoot at full resolution. Upscaling is for recovering an image you cannot reshoot, not for preparing a listing.
How much margin should I leave around a product?
About 10% on every side. It costs nothing, it survives every crop the platforms apply, and it gives the product somewhere to sit in a square frame rather than touching the edges.
