Depop listing photos

Depop is the most style-led resale app. A flat white background is not the goal here — a clear, characterful photo is.

Depop is a look, not a catalogue

Depop's buyers browse for a style as much as an item, and its grid rewards photos with personality: worn shots, styled backgrounds, colour, an identifiable mood. A pure white catalogue cut-out is technically clear and commercially weak on this platform.

That does not mean the photo can be sloppy. The item still has to be visible in full, in focus, in accurate colour — the styling is what surrounds it, not what hides it.

  • A styled or worn cover shot, on a background that suits the piece.
  • Square crop: Depop's grid is square and crops anything else.
  • Colour accuracy over filter. A buyer who receives a different colour sends it back.
  • One item per listing, however busy the background.

The detail shots buyers expect

Styled covers win the click; plain detail shots win the sale. Depop buyers are buying second-hand, often vintage, and they want to see the label, the measurements and the condition before they commit.

  • The brand and size label, readable in the photo.
  • Flat measurements with a tape measure in frame.
  • Fabric close-up, so the texture is not a surprise.
  • Any flaw, photographed and described.

Styled without a studio

The styling that performs on Depop is mostly about the background: a coloured wall, a textured floor, a warm-lit corner. Zenith AI – Product Photo generates backgrounds, so a garment photographed against a plain door can be presented against the wall you would have shot it on if you had one.

Keep the detail shots honest and unedited, and use the generated scenes for the cover. That is the combination that sells on a style-led platform.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What should a Depop cover photo look like?

Styled, square and clear. Depop rewards personality, so a worn or carefully styled shot outperforms a plain catalogue image — as long as the item is fully visible and its colour is accurate.

How many photos does a Depop listing need?

At least four: a styled cover, the label, a fabric close-up and any flaw, plus flat measurements for clothing. The cover earns the click; the rest earn the sale.

Can I use filters on Depop photos?

Keep them light. Depop buyers care about colour accuracy because the item is second-hand and often vintage, and a filter that shifts the colour is the fastest route to a return or a dispute.

Do I need a white background for Depop?

No. A white cut-out is a marketplace convention, and on Depop it reads as generic. Use a styled background for the cover and keep a plain, well-lit shot for the detail images.
