Sports cards, by type
The card in your hand belongs to a category, and the category decides what it is worth and how it is identified. One page per type.
Two cards that look similar can differ by a factor of a hundred, and the difference is almost always categorical: a rookie versus a base card, a refractor versus a base parallel, a graded copy versus a raw one.
Each page below takes one category, explains what makes it distinct, and shows how to identify it — which is the step that everything else depends on.

FAQ
よくある質問
What are the main types of sports cards?
Base cards, rookie cards, inserts, parallels (including numbered and refractor versions), autographs, memorabilia cards, and graded slabs. Most cards in a collection are base cards, and most of the value is concentrated in the other categories.
How do I know what card I have?
Read the front for the player, the year and the set design, then the back for the card number, the set name and any serial numbering. The combination of set, card number and parallel is what identifies a card uniquely.
Does the sport change what a card is worth?
It changes the market rather than the card. Baseball has the deepest vintage market, basketball the strongest modern market, and soccer and hockey are driven by regional demand. The same card design can be worth very different amounts in different sports.
